Why Hire a College Counselor?
I've discovered through working with many students navigating through the college process that most students do not know how to market themselves on a college application, and often sell themselves short. Unfortunately, the ratio of guidance counselors to students in most large schools can't offer the individualized attention that students need to make the most of themselves in their applications. Whether your child is a high performing student, or a child who can use more encouragement to be their best, I believe I can get the best out of them and find a place to match their individual needs and future plans.
When should you start?
Anytime sophomore or the beginning of junior year is the best time to begin because I can review the student’s scheduling choices for junior/senior year and get the ball rolling, so that they will be able to start their senior year with their college choices done, essay(s) complete, and transcripts and recommendations ready to go. That being said, senior year is not too late, just a more condensed process.
The average time needed for a junior who has not started the process is usually 12-16 hrs over several months, but it could be less or more, depending on student compliance, the amount and type of applications, and progress in the writing process.
